Downsize 2009

And here it is, downsizing employees back in the Philippines and even in shanghai.
The echo of such move is also felt into the offices affiliated and scattered around the world. It is likely that it will continue if the situation get worst into the second quarter of this year.

I see young people hugging and talking along the street side waiting for their bus ride(maybe because winter cold here is sometimes 5 below zero). It seems that they don't know whats really happening around in the city and the country. Nevertheless, it could be that Chinese family need to support one child only. Perhaps, the savings they have are far reaching than the families of neighboring Asian Families.

I remember my self back (Philippines) in the 1998-1999 just after the first year of the Asian financial crisis, I never knew what it was and why work was scarce at the time when I graduated. That time also, the Chinese government help in the Asian crisis by holding steady their economy so that other nations in Asia will not be fully devastated by the crisis. That year was memorable also, it is the first time I experienced the so called "skeletal force". The word skeletal pertains to important structures that moved the body of the company in a time of downsizing. I remember clearly the faces of my two boss who operates outside the office while I run the office from the inside. It took me 3 months more during that time before I left that company.

Its true that we need to help each other in a time of financial crisis. It is also true and important that the US government help since the crisis originated from their place. For all other nations, I hope their governments will be creative enough in extending help to returning immigrant workers who just lost jobs. For us who work in Shanghai, I hope the economic stimulus packages will take effect soon. I want to be optimistic and that the expo2010 would turn something good for the stirring wheel of life.

Less Pedestrians

There are now less pedestrians roaming around the office-corridors in huaihai road. It must be the season where we have zero to minus 2 degrees Celsius temperature. However, there is this thought that people may have started going home for the New Year’s celebration. Also, maybe, there is that atmosphere of people who have gone vacation because they lost their jobs. I hope that it will not further continue but the current situation does not guarantee it in the near future. I still hope that through people's cooperation through work and good services to clients may surpass these tough times.
